ULE stands for Upper, Lower and Engine, and is a hybrid fitness benchmark, currently at proof of concept stage. An athlete makes a ULE attempt across three key domains of Upper Body Strength (Bench Press), Lower Body Strength (Deadlift), and Aerobic capacity / "Engine" (Running). Performance standards and rules can be found here.
Aim to complete the maximum amount of reps (at required bodyweight percentages) of 1) benchpress and 2) deadlift and 3) the maximum number of kilometres (at required running pace). The lowest number from the three domains, equals your ULE Level. For example, 5 benchpress reps, 4 deadlift reps, and 5 kilometres ran, would give a ULE Level 4, as the deadlift of 4 reps was the lower of the three domains. Performance standards and rules can be found here.
If you want to test strength, there are clear standards. If you want to test running (or other aerobic disciplines), same thing. But hybrid fitness? Very little exists. Enter ULE.
